What is a hostel?

Our hostel is essentially an inn with two hostel-style dormitories, three inn-style private rooms, and one 6-person suite. What creates the hostel feel at HH is the abundance of shared spaces: our kitchen, dining room, lounges, and bathrooms. This will be your avenue to meet new friends and share new experiences. Our building is large enough for a great group setting or finding some quiet time for yourself.

Where are hostels and how many are there?

Hostelling International USA has nearly 4,000 hostels in over 80 countries worldwide, including nearly 60 hostels here in the United States. Most hostels are in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, etc., but our vision was to create a small enough hostel that it would feel like a home away from home.

Are hostels just for young people?

No. When hostels are located on backpacking travel routes in other countries, they tend to attract a young traveling crowd, because of their affordability, but there is always a vast mix of ages. At HH, we have the perfect setup for families and guests of all ages. We strive to keep a balance between fun and relaxation, which is why we will close our bar at 10pm and ask that guests are quiet in sleeping quarters past 11pm.

Do I need to bring anything special?

If you are staying in the bunk rooms and would like to store your valuables in an extra safe place, bring a lock. We provide all bedding and towels. ***Please note that we do not provide toiletries***

Where do I keep my belongings and adventure gear?

If you are staying in the bunkrooms, you will have a place to keep your bags. We have a room dedicated to storing and drying outdoor equipment. We provide this safekeeping facility, but we ask that you bring your own lock.

When is the HH restaurant open/what’s the deal with dinner?

Our kitchen is open to guests and the public for dinner Thursdays through Sundays, and we seat from 5:30-9pm. Our plates range from small to large, and we serve everything family-style, in the way that we send out one or two dishes at a time and place everything in the center of the table for everyone to share so that everybody gets to taste a bit of everything. We recommend one and a half dishes per person, and we will always make sure that you order the right amount of food! Everyone is welcome. Half the fun of staying here is getting to experience our little restaurant and bar that pump out insane amounts of delicious food and drinks.  Our lovely chef, Alyssa, has years of experience in the restaurant biz and has turned the hostel into a foodie destination in Southern VT. One of the perks of being an overnight guest here is that we will always find a way to fit you in for dinner. We only take a few reservations a night from people not staying with us in order to ensure that we don’t get fully booked before our overnight guests have the chance to reserve a table.

Menus can be found here

I know you don’t take reservations but….

At HH, we take limited reservations for parties of 5 or more, and we seat the rest of our tables on a first-come, first-served basis. We maintain this practice because we want to remain a neighborhood restaurant where anyone, on any given night, can have a chance to dine with us without having to book a table weeks in advance.

So, if you want to dine with us, come on in! Sometimes you’ll be sat right away, other times you’ll need to put your name on a wait list, so on Holidays, come in a bit before you want to eat, put your name in, and relax with some delicious drinks.

Here are the exceptions to our reservation policy:

If you’re an overnight guest: We recommend letting us know that you’d like us to save you a table a few days before you arrive. We do two to three seatings a night, and we will always try our best to give you a spot in your requested seating. We will be in touch throughout the night to let you know when your table will be available!

If you’re a party of 5 or more: We take limited reservations each night for parties of 5 or more, as we only have three tables that seat 5+ people. At these tables, we do two seatings per night at 6pm and 8pm.

Can lodging guests use the kitchen/when is it off limits?

Why, yes! Our kitchen is what sets us apart from most of the lodging in Ludlow. We encourage guests to treat our fully equipped kitchen as their own, including how they would (hopefully) clean their own kitchen. Cook with us! The kitchen is always available in the mornings, HOWEVER, on nights when our restaurant is operating, guests will not have access to the kitchen past noon. On holiday weeks, the restaurant will likely be open every night, and will not be available for personal use after noon. Please call us to confirm if the kitchen will be available during your stay.

Is breakfast included?

Yes! Every morning we will serve a breakfast of homemade granola, Vermont yogurts and coffee. Espresso drinks are available for purchase starting at 8am.

What does HH serve at their bar?

HH has a full bar that sells delicious craft cocktails, draught beer, craft canned beer, rare bottled beer (Backacre!), wine, and espresso drinks Wednesday through Sunday 5pm- until around 10pm.

Can I bring my own Alcohol to HH?

Because we have a full bar, Vermont Law does not permit anyone to bring their own alcohol onto the premises. If you want a drink, we have you covered.

How do I get to Okemo Mountain from HH?

You can jump on the shuttle from the sidewalk in front of HH every 20 minutes for a free ride to the mountain, just one mile away.

Can I walk to town from HH?

Why, yes! We are located on Main Street in Ludlow, so you can walk anywhere in town you’d like. See more activities in town.

Does HH have Wifi?

Of course, people. We have free wifi 24 hours a day.

Who will I share a bathroom with?

Each of our hostel-style dormitories has its own bathroom, so you will only share with the people in your room. Our private rooms will share a bathroom with no more than two people from one other room.

Is HH animal friendly?

Though we love animals, we do not accept them here at HH. The good news is we have a canine camp located just 2 miles south of us. For more information visit Cavendish Canine Camp.

Where can I park my car?

HH has a parking lot that you can park in. Please check with a staff member upon check-in to make sure that you are parked in an okay spot. In the case that the lot is full, just leave your car in the lot and come inside to talk to us. We have additional parking across the street that we’ll show you to. During the summer you may park overnight in the street, but not in the winter.

Do I have to make a reservation for lodging at HH?

Reservations are recommended during holidays, although not required. You can book ahead by calling, emailing or reserving on our website. Walk-ins are welcome until 10pm.

Can I book HH for special events?

Yes! Please email hello@homestylehostel.com. We are happy to rent out the entire hostel for lodging as well as to host private dinner and cocktail parties. Get in touch!
